GSBC Spotlight: Innovation & the Future of Banking
At the 75th Annual School Session, GSBC continues its focus on forward-looking leadership with sessions designed to explore the technologies and trends shaping the future of community banking.
Exploring What’s Next in Banking
As innovation accelerates across financial services, community bank leaders are being asked to evaluate new technologies, respond to evolving risks and identify opportunities to better serve their customers and communities.
These featured sessions are designed to bring those challenges into focus, offering both insight into emerging trends and practical guidance for what comes next.
July 23: ICBA ThinkTECH Accelerator Showcase
The ICBA ThinkTECH Accelerator Showcase will give GSBC students a front-row seat to innovation in action.
This session will highlight key areas shaping the industry, including artificial intelligence, data, digital assets, fraud prevention and customer experience. Each reflects a critical area where community banks are actively adapting and investing.
Students will explore how these technologies are being applied to improve decision-making, strengthen risk management, enhance customer engagement and drive operational efficiency.
July 28: Faculty Panel on Stablecoin, AI and Emerging Technologies
Closing out the featured sessions, GSBC faculty and industry leaders will come together for a timely and forward-looking discussion focused on stablecoins, artificial intelligence and the broader innovation landscape.
The panel will feature faculty members David Peterson and Kyle Thomas, alongside GSBC alum and former faculty member Becky Buhr and University of Wyoming finance professor Ali Nejadmalayeri. It will be moderated by GSBC Trustee Sheila Noll.
The discussion will be grounded in why innovation matters now more than ever for community banks, with a focus on stablecoins and digital assets, AI and automation and the evolving role of data, digital experience and regulatory technology.
Importantly, the conversation will move beyond concepts to focus on practical, actionable takeaways, helping banks identify steps they can take over the next 12 to 24 months as they navigate change and position their institutions for the future.
Insight for a Rapidly Evolving Industry
Together, these sessions are designed to equip students with both the perspective and the practical tools needed to navigate a rapidly changing financial landscape and lead their institutions forward.
