Community banks operate within one of the most complex legal and regulatory frameworks in any industry. This course helps students understand the rules that shape what banks can do and how leaders must navigate them. Rather than focusing only on compliance, the course connects banking law to strategic decision making and risk management.
Students will review the fundamentals of banking law including bank powers, organizational structures and the role of federal and state regulators. The course also provides insight into the examination process and how regulatory expectations influence day to day operations. Students will also explore emerging legal and policy issues such as debanking, fintech partnerships and digital assets to understand how the regulatory landscape continues to evolve.
