In 2009, Kelly Karns purchased a bank consulting firm that was originally founded in 1986 and renamed it Profit Improvement, LLC. The firm serves the banking industry in Vendor Contract Management, IT Contract Negotiations and Profit Reviews.

Prior to the acquisition of Profit Improvement, Kelly had over 20 years of executive experience in banking, with a history in profit improvement from both revenue growth and cost control. His background covers expense reduction, efficiency, organizational structure, product innovation, service enhancement, and market expansion. He has a Bachelor of Science in Finance, an MBA and served in the US Marine Corps. Kelly was an honor graduate of the Oklahoma Bankers Association Commercial Lending School and is a Certified Regulatory Vendor Program Manager. He is also a Certified Financial Planner™ and has held several securities licenses.

Kelly is a third generation banker and learned banking from the bottom up. He performed the duties of CFO and COO for over 12 years. During the challenges of the 1980’s and 1990’s, he was the CEO’s designee to lead cost cutting and restructuring. As the economy improved, he helped lead additional market expansion that concluded with a very profitable sale of the bank. Managing retail and private banking, he was instrumental in the growth of the San Antonio market from one to 17 locations through de novo branches and acquisitions. In addition to loan review and credit analysis, he has experience in operations, finance, employee benefits and sales. Kelly served on the board of directors and on the directors’ loan committee. He also has nine years executive experience in trust, investment and insurance activities.

Outside of banking, Kelly served as controller for a publicly traded distribution company. During this time he actively participated in the restructuring and sale of the company.

In addition to having taught as adjunct faculty for several universities, Kelly has served in his local church and in numerous civic organizations. Kelly and his wife Mary have five children.
