GSBC is proud to announce the addition of an Affordable Housing micro-credential to its Annual School Session curriculum, beginning July 2025. Offered in partnership with FHLBank Topeka’s Affordable Housing Institute at Metropolitan State University of Denver, the micro-credential is designed to give community bankers a comprehensive understanding of affordable housing finance and the vital role they play in supporting housing initiatives across the country.
This specialized credential is available as supplementary coursework to all GSBC students and was developed in response to growing interest and need for community-based financial institutions to take a more active role in addressing housing affordability.
“This micro-credential empowers our students with the knowledge and tools to navigate a specialized but increasingly essential area of banking,” said GSBC President Michael Stevens. “Affordable housing is a pressing national concern, and this program ensures our students are prepared to lead with expertise and purpose.”
The curriculum was made possible through a grant from the FHLBank Topeka to Metropolitan State University (MSU) of Denver to establish the FHLBank Topeka Affordable Housing Institute at MSU Denver. The grant supports education, research and partnerships which includes strengthening the capacity of community banks to address housing challenges.
“We see vast possibilities with this innovative partnership,” said FHLBank Topeka President and CEO Jeff Kuzbel. “Our organization and many of our cooperative members, which include nearly 670 financial institutions across Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma, participate in the GSBC. We are pleased GSBC students can use this micro-credential to strengthen their affordable housing knowledge and ultimately their communities as a whole.”
