Gail Bliss Named GSBC Chair-Elect, Continuing a Lifetime of Service to Community Banking

 

 

GSBC is proud to announce that Gail Bliss, Chief Operating Officer of Northeast Bank in Minneapolis, Minn., has been named Chair Elect of the GSBC Board of Trustees.

A dedicated community banker, GSBC alumna and longtime volunteer, Bliss brings decades of leadership experience and an unwavering commitment to developing the next generation of community bank leaders.

Bliss has spent nearly four decades at Northeast Bank, beginning her career as an intern in 1986 before joining the bank full time just three weeks later. Throughout her career, she has held numerous leadership positions and now serves as Chief Operating Officer, where she leads the bank’s strategic planning process and works closely with the board of directors on governance initiatives.

“My consistent observation about Gail is that it is never about her, but the people and organization she is serving,” said GSBC President & CEO Michael Stevens. “She has dedicated her career to strengthening her institution and developing leaders. Her longstanding commitment to GSBC and her thoughtful approach to leadership make her an outstanding choice to help guide the future of our school.”

A graduate of GSBC’s Annual School Session, Bliss earned her diploma with honors in 2009 and has remained actively engaged with the school ever since. She previously served on the GSBC Alumni Advisory Board and spent five years as a bank simulation instructor, helping students strengthen their leadership and strategic decision making in the classroom.

Beyond GSBC, Bliss has been a respected leader within the banking industry. She is a past Chair of the Minnesota Bankers Association and currently serves on the Minnesota Department of Commerce’s Bank Advisory Council and the Minnesota Bankers Association’s Government Relations Council. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Bethel University.

As Chair Elect, Bliss will help guide GSBC’s long-term vision and strategic priorities while supporting its mission of developing bold leaders for the future of community banking. Her appointment reflects GSBC’s continued commitment to leadership grounded in service, education and the enduring values of community banking.

Bliss will assume the role of GSBC Chair in 2027, to succeed Christie Huber Obenauer, CEO/President of Union State Bank in Hazen, N.D.
