John Norwood has taught Business Law in Financial Institutions at GSBC since 2002. “Dr. J,” as he is known on campus, consistently ranks as one of the top-rated instructors of a core class at GSBC. John is a Professor of Business Law at the University of Arkansas, Walton College of Business and is the holder of the Nolan Williams Lectureship. He has served as a faculty advisor for Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society since 1989. He also served as the Director of the Walton College Honors Program from 1999-2008. John is an adjunct professor at the law school and the past Editor in Chief of the Journal of Legal Studies Education. His educational background includes a BA and MBA from Louisiana State University and a JD from Tulane University.

John’s areas of research interest include commercial law; the relationship between banks and the owners of checking accounts; bankruptcy; and gaming law. He has written numerous research articles throughout his career, and has received many awards and teaching distinctions as well as participates in many University and Community Service activities.
