John Nelson presently serves as the CEO of Ames National Corporation (Company) which is a six-bank holding company located in central Iowa with total assets of $1.7 billion. His job duties include overseeing the Company’s nearly $500 million fixed income portfolio in consultation with each bank’s asset liability committee. John has been with the Company since 1993 and was a commissioned bank examiner with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation for three years prior to joining Ames National. He graduated with Bachelor of Business Administration in 1989 from Iowa State University and successfully passed the examination to become a certified public accountant in 1999.

The community activities John is involved with include serving as a board member for Gilbert Community Schools the past six years, a director and treasurer for two non-profit groups that advocate for education and housing for disadvantaged youth, and an active member St. Cecilia’s Church in Ames, IA.
