EDI Course: Managing the Investment Portfolio and Case Study: Link Between Funding, Credit & Investment Decisions
Chris Nelson is the Director of Finance & Treasury and Chief Investment Officer for Bangor Savings Bank, a $3.3 billion independent community bank based in Bangor, Maine. He is responsible for managing the bank’s $774 million investment portfolio, as well as supervising the bank’s financial operations relating to liquidity and funds management, asset/liability and interest rate risk management, loan and deposit pricing, hedging and derivative activities, and international services. Chris has been involved in banking and investments for more than 20 years. He is a graduate of Excelsior College with a B.S. degree in Finance and the New England College of Business and Finance with a M.S. degree in Finance. Chris received his Chartered Financial Analyst designation from the CFA Institute in 1999.
In addition to working with GSBC, Chris is a faculty member for the Graduate School of Bank Investments and Financial Management, formerly held in South Carolina and serves as an adjunct instructor for the University of Maine Business School. He has also been a featured speaker at Darling Consulting Group’s annual Balance Sheet Management Conference and the Graduate School of Banking at Colorado’s Workshop on Community Bank Investments & Enterprise Risk Management. Chris is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Maine, and formerly served on the Member Advisory Panel for the Federal Home Loan Bank in Boston.
