The current economic environment presents significant challenges to community bankers in managing their security portfolios and overall interest rate risk in the balance sheet. This annual conference provides a critique of current investment alternatives, examines the trade-offs between different funding alternatives, offers contingency funding planning analysis and describes strategies to enhance portfolio performance and aggregate interest rate risk management practices. Attendees  learn about funding strategies that maximize long-term earning opportunities; risk-return features of mortgage-backed securities, callable agency securities, and municipal bonds; core deposit analytics; best practices in interest rate risk measurement and management.

GSBC and CSBS join forces each year to deliver the best and most effective bank director training. This program gets to the point and delivers clear, effective tools to serve as a community bank director.
 
2011 presentations included:  The Future of Community Banking, Capital Strategies, Where Do We Go From Here, FDIC Loss Sharing on Assisted Transactions, the American Agricultural Boom: How Long Can It Last?, Dodd Frank and the CFPB, Shadow Financial Service Oversight Council-What are the Emerging Risks?, and Innovative Community Bank Strategies.  The capstone of the program will be an open dialogue with State Bank Supervisors on on issues facing banks in their states and the importance of banks to local economic development.
